Frequently Asked Questions

Scholarship Award

Is the Yardi Scholarship part of the Regents’ and Chancellors' Scholarship?

The Yardi Scholarship and the Regents’ and Chancellors’ Scholarship are two distinct scholarship programs, but have partnered to identify and select Yardi Scholars from among the recipients of the Regents’ and Chancellors’ Scholarship. Upon accepting the award for each scholarship, students are recognized as a Yardi Scholar and a Regents’ and Chancellors’ Scholar. Scholars participating in the Yardi Scholarship program are eligible for the same benefits as other Regents’ and Chancellors’ Scholars.

Is there a monetary award with the Yardi Scholarship?

Yardi Scholars receive a monetary award while participating in the Yardi Scholarship program (up to a maximum of $10,000 per year). The amount of both the Yardi Scholarship and Regents' and Chancellor's Scholarship monetary awards will be determined by the scholar's financial need as determined by the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office. Scholars may not receive a monetary award in excess of their financial need. Yardi Scholars also receive funding (up to $7,000) towards one immersive, hands-on Discovery Experience during the semester/summer of their choice (e.g. Cal in the Capital internship, Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship, Public Service Internship, Study Abroad).

Is there a commitment associated with the Yardi Scholarship?

Yardi Scholars are required to participate in all program components, including but not limited to a first-year course, semesterly salon series, cohort course, and capstone course.

Does the Yardi Scholarship cover summer expenses?

The Yardi Scholarship monetary award is for fall and spring semesters only, and does not cover summer courses or programs. However, the funding for a Discovery Experience can be applied towards a summer experience.

This includes a special Yardi section of Berkeley Connect during your first year, and a Berkeley Changemaker course and capstone course developed specifically for Yardi Scholars. Scholars will also take a quantitative methods course (e.g. Data 8 Foundations of Data Science) as a prerequisite for the Changemaker and capstone courses.

Can I pursue a double major while a Yardi Scholar?

There is no restriction from the Yardi Scholarship on doing a double major provided the additional workload does not prevent you from meeting the program commitmentsYardi Scholars who are considering a double major should consult with the Yardi Program Manager and their college for more information (see College of Engineering or College of Letters & Science).
