Immersive, hands-on learning for Yardi Scholars
Every Yardi Scholar receives funding towards a discovery experience during the semester or summer of their choice. A discovery experience is an immersive, hands-on experience that is intellectually captivating, brings a sense of educational purpose, generates feelings of community and belonging, grows one’s confidence as a changemaker, and offers opportunities for reflection. In the arc of discovery, you move from being a student towards being a practitioner by connecting with opportunities and resources, immersing yourself in and outside the classroom, and bringing it all together in a culminating personalized project.

UC Washington Program (UCDC)
Spend fall or spring semester in our nation’s capital interning, doing research, and taking classes with other UC students. Theory meets practice for a powerful learning experience, as students research in class what they experience professionally in their internships. Students considering the UC Washington Program (UCDC) experience should apply the semester before the term they would like to attend (for example, if you wish to attend UCDC in the Fall semester, you would apply in the Spring semester prior). Eligible upperclassmen are encouraged to apply.
Cal in the Capital
Intern in Washington D.C. in the summer through Cal in the Capital (CITC), a student-managed internship program housed in the Public Service Center. Selected Berkeley students work full time during the summer in an internship that they find on their own with support from the Cal in the Capital team. The program is an opportunity to explore interests, enhance professional and leadership skills, learn about national issues and current events, network with Cal alumni, and explore the dynamic life of our nation’s capital. Eligible upperclassmen are encouraged to apply.
UC Center Sacramento
Study and intern at the University of California’s teaching, research and public-service site in Sacramento. Operated by UC Davis, UC Center Sacramento (UCCS) offers a distinctive academic program in public policy to students from throughout the university’s 10-campus system. The program is offered year-round and provides students with an opportunity to study through seminars and internships in and around the state Capitol. Eligible upperclassmen are encouraged to apply.
Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships
Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowships (SURF) provide undergraduates with $5,000 in funding to undertake research in the summer months. There are two SURF fellowships: SURF L&S for students in the College of Letters and Science entering their final year or semester to undertake concentrated research in preparation for a senior thesis or other major capstone project; and SURF Rose Hills for sophomores, juniors and seniors conducting STEM-oriented research, either as a faculty-led project or an independent project of their own design.
Study Abroad
Immerse yourself in another country in a topic of your choice with a study abroad experience. There are a myriad of programs and destinations to choose from.
